GENERAL FAQs:
Question: Who are you?
Answer: The Brooklyn and New Jersey Knighthawks organization is privately owned unaffiliated with any hockey club in the Tri-State area out of the state of Minnesota aiming to bring quality hockey to Brooklyn for the Spring 2020 season!
Question: What is a Spring Selects program?
Answer: A non-regular season ice hockey travel program that does not interfere with your regular season games or contract where you are allowed to play anywhere. Talent from multiple different clubs usually tries out for a spot on a Spring Selects squad and isn't necessarily from one particular regular season club.
Question: Is Spring Selects different than a spring league or in-house spring program?
Answer: Absolutely. A true Spring Selects program is completely different than an individual club's spring league or spring program because the competition is higher as multiple outsiders try out. Because we are not a club and are privately affiliated we do not have a home rink to hold a spring league or in-house spring program. We do have a spring program and a tourney program that we offer.
Question: Why is the season so short?
Answer: All Spring Selects teams are generally 6-11 weeks long. Players often play other spring sports and families increase vacation in the summer which are a few of the main reasons the season is shortened. This year we are finishing two weeks early to give families a lengthened summer break as well and to ensure we attend the most competitive tournaments during the peak of the spring season.
Question: What is the Knighthawks Soar program?
Answer: We want you to use our brand! The Knighthawks Soar program is open to any coach who has 13+ skaters, 1+ goalie and a coach willing to use our brand in order to attend a tournament. We will pay your coach $250 and pick up the tab on his hotel room as well as pay for the tournament fee. Each player must pay $275 and there has to be a minimum of 13 players (including goalie). We will provide jerseys for an extra cost or you can borrow the day of the tournament to save money. Text us at 612.440.7779 or text, or, email us at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com for more information.

Question: What's new this year?
Answer: We're going wild! We had such a high demand for tournaments this year due to COVID that we are adding more tournaments but you'll only be able to "get a spot" after we have evaluated you for this year. You can be evaluated virtually by our coaches as long as you have at least a 30 second video to email us, or, you can send us a few LiveBarn links as we continuously fill teams. Pending NY State allows us to, we will still have our normal 7 week season but we will have sporadically spread out tournaments and will work with your schedule so you can attend. As was planned last year, skills sessions will be run by college, military academy, NHL staff and our fantastic instructors. We will also be accepting import players again (you helped us by expanding our program to 450 players nationwide!!) for specific spots and tournaments but you must email to inquire. We're hoping to also field girls squads and have a female instructor on staff this year. Our 7X7X7 program still exists also! We've increased our ability to provide hockey for all by creating more squads that cater to specific play levels ranging from Elite and AAA, to B and C level. We want to cater to all! We heard you last year and we want to make sure we meet your expectations! This year for 2022 we will be sending specialty squads to World Selects, Triple Crown, The CLASH, Top Tier Pittsburgh, Innsbruck|Austria, Las Vegas BRICK, Nashville BRICK, Boston BRICK and LA BRICK. We will be actively working to upstart our girls program as well.
Question: Can I just register for a tournament and how will they know my level?
Answer: Yes! You can choose to play in a single tournament based on what tournaments we are offering this season. However, you must get vetted by one of our instructors so we know where you "hang." Please send an email inquiry to brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com or text us at 612.440.7779 to learn more. We speak to coaches, check LiveBarn and accept clips for reviews. If you are local the best way is to come to an ID skate. We will accommodate players from across North America and internationally so long as you can show us your level of play and pending there is room on a squad.
Question: Can you explain the options for a practice player?
Answer: There are multiple options to select from if you decide to participate as a practice player. The practice schedule is posted online under our "tournament and practice schedule" link which indicates all dates sessions are offered. You have the option to purchase packages or single sessions. The various costs of training packages are listed under our "spring products" page and are available for purchase. With practice players options include:
1) 7X7X7 package (7 skills, 7 3X3, 7 off-ice): $650
2) Single skills or 3x3 session: $55
3) Single off-ice session: $25
4) 7 off-ice sessions $155
5) 7 skills sessions or 3X3 sessions: $350
Certain packages can be split into multiple payments as long as the payment is complete within 4 months of a February initial payment date. On-ice practice jerseys are not included but they can be purchased for $20 before the day of practice. Please inquire at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com.
Question: Does it matter whether a player attends a New Jersey or Brooklyn skate for consideration?
Answer: No, however if you are trying out in Brooklyn for a New Jersey spot or vice-versa please email us and let us know that is your intent so we can properly arrange the tryout for your player.
Question: Why is there a big difference between the $650 practice player and $1105 full package player cost?
Answer: The practice player cost of $650 includes our 7X7X7 package (7 skills, 7 3X3, 7 off-ice). The tournament bound player package (must be invited to play) includes the 7X7X7 package (value $650) and two tournaments (value $450), two systems practices (value $110), practice jersey (value $20), game jersey and socks (value $65), coaches bench stipend, and coaches hotel fee for tournaments (stipend value $500 for two tournaments). You can also add a GEL STX training stick and the total will be $1330.
Question: How does an import player get a spot on a squad?
Answer: Our evaluations are the fairest way to assess talent and place individuals onto squads. Because we are an independent program, we hope to garner as much talent as possible at our evaluations. However, we recognize that some players in other states or regions will want to participate as import players. If we have no experience with your player previously, then we ask that you send us specific information including current location and team name, birth year, number of years playing on regular season travel, level of travel play for the past two years and league, height, weight, shot, positional play, and a current coach with contact information who can provide a recommendation for them. In addition, we request one video within game-play of your player. If within a reasonable distance, we will send a representative to watch the player in a game and as such may ask for a jersey number of the player and a public game time. The cost for import players attending a single tournament is $275 and the price includes the individualized jersey, socks, coaches fee, coaches hotel and tournament fee; to just play without keeping the jersey and socks the charge is $225. We welcome all import players interested to inquire by sending an email to brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com.
Question: Is my evaluation registration confidential?
Answer: Absolutely. We do not collect USA Hockey or AAU information from your player at point of online evaluation registration so it's completely private information when you are electronically signed up. We take this very serious. However, we do ask you if you are covered by USA Hockey online. If you are not, or are an international player seeking a spot please email us at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com for more information.
Question: Can a player play on more than one spring selects squad?
Answer: Yes. There are no restrictions from clubs or contracts disallowing players from playing on more than one squad. Therefore, players may conceivably try out and accept more than one offer. However, you want to make sure that tournaments do not cross over each other and that you can make practices for all teams.
Question: What does the cost go towards and is that for all age levels?
Answer: Our competitive seven week program price for spring players of $650 and tourney players of $1105 is for all age levels; whether you're a mite or a midget you pay the same to play pending you make the level you are trying out for. Our cost for spring players goes towards practice jersey, 7 off-ice practices, 14 total on-ice practices (including 7 on-ice skills sessions and 7 on-ice 3X3 sessions) and access to Aviator Sports & Events Center Ice. Our cost for tourney bound players goes towards 2 tournaments, 16 total on-ice practices (including 7 on-ice skills sessions, 7 on-ice 3X3 sessions and 2 practices the week before a tournament; at the coaches discretion and pending ice availability additional practices may be scheduled), gear including practice and individualized jersey, socks, and access to Aviator Sports & Events Center Ice.
Question: Are refunds available and what instances are they allowed?
Answer: Refunds are only allowed in rare circumstances related to health issues. Therefore, sales are final. If you purchased a package and decided last minute to not go through with the program, refunds are not available given we are an at-cost organization. In particular, if your player is participating in tournaments the funds are not refundable. The responsibility of the decision to reverse your player's participation is the responsibility of the player and parent, not the organization. However, we do offer varying packages and you can start with a smaller package and add more choices on later. If in the rare event a clinic, camp, tournament, tryout or other event is cancelled and you paid you will be refunded; however, refunds begin in July or August generally after the programming commences for the summer. This safeguards our organization and allows the customer an opportunity to have credits with us if they wish to participate in other events.
Question: Why aren't coaches publicly published?
Answer: We have a great respect for the area leagues, USA Hockey and the AAU. Because of regulations pertaining to the regular season we are not at liberty to publish coaches names until the regular season ends. If you would like to discuss further with one of our representatives, please text our switchboard at 612.440.7779 or email us at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com.
Question: How will I pay and how do I request a payment plan?
Answer: There are multiple ways to pay. The most common is credit card although this will incur a 2.5% convenience fee; when you receive your contract you have the option to include your credit card information directly onto the contract or utilize the invoice we send you for the tuition. You can request a payment plan by emailing us at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com prior to paying the invoice that you receive. Also, you can text us anytime at 612.440.7779 on our switchboard and someone will contact you shortly.
Question: What if we can't make all practices or can only attend one or two tournaments?
Answer: If you have special circumstances please let us know. We recognize that players may have other sports and can only make so many tournaments or practices. You should inquire at brooklynknighthawks@gmail.com for more information as such.
Question: Why don't you have tournaments posted yet?
Answer: We are waiting to finalize our tournaments until the evaluation and tryout date commence and teams are selected. In general, we are a AAA program aiming to go to the top tournaments in the Spring within a 3-4 hour drive. Please note that we will post potential tournaments but not finalize them until we make rosters final on February 1st, 2020.
Question: What if we can't make the evaluations but we want to have a chance to play?
Answer: While do not recommend missing an evaluation or tryout date we certainly understand that families have priorities. As such we are asking that you email us to let us know your interest so we can work out an evaluation for your player. We want to make sure the largest pool of talent can access evaluations so we have a successful and fun spring. Remember, your information is always kept confidential and only Knighthawks staff can access it.
Question: How much are evaluations and why aren't they posted online?
Answer: Warm-Up and Evaluation sessions are $55 for non-chartered events and $75 for chartered events and we do have information publicly posted actually. We have over 10 different potential levels ranging in years born and age groups. You can go to our registration link above or on this website to register for the upcoming December 2020 evaluations.
Question: When are practices?
Answer: Practices will be scheduled in February, tentatively. However, we are expecting practices to be 2X per week to prepare for upcoming tournaments and increase development of players. We understand that parents have other commitments in other sports and we will work around your schedules after point of team selection to choose what days and tournaments are best for everyone. In addition, we also have a multitude of options to customize the number of tournaments and practices you'd like to attend. Email us with inquiries and let us know your interests; we will accommodate!
